Understanding Peace and Peacekeeping

Understanding Peace and PeacekeepingIn order to understand Peace and Peacekeeping, you need to know a little about the two topics. You see, peace is an ideal that cannot be achieved and peacekeeping is the way to ensure that this ideal is attained. The principles behind peace are those of amity, good will, and non-aggression.Amity, as mentioned above, is the basis of peace. It is the idea that we should try to live in a world where we will not destroy the other countries or their people with our quarrels and conflicts. We have to understand that conflict is bad for everyone involved. Therefore, instead of resorting to violence, peace comes through persuasion, negotiation, and a peaceful settlement. Then, there are peaceful solutions which can help in reducing conflicts between nations. These solutions include concessions and agreements such as negotiations or giving up one's rights. They also include mediation in cases where the situation becomes too heated for one to handle it on his own. There are two major mistakes that may lead to war. These are misjudgment, which means a person having no regard for the future of the nation or the world; and ignorance, which means a person who does not see what the future holds for the nation or world.Misconceptions are the two main causes of war. In order to prevent war, there needs to be peace among all nations, or at least the nations who do not have any misjudgments.Another popular solution to war is known as negotiations, especially among those nations who do not have any misjudgments and misconceptions. Negotiations are not only useful in creating mutual understanding between the different sides, but also help the two sides reach a mutual agreement where both are equally successful. The lessons for us in today'sworld include learning the value of peace, learning that a peaceful solution is often more preferable than a violent one, and finally accepting that war is not the answer to every problem. So if we want to avoid w ar, we have to be careful not to allow our minds to entertain the thoughts of war.The purpose of this article is to introduce you to the topic of Peace and Peacekeeping. We hope that by the time you are done reading this possible paper, you will be able to have a better understanding of the subject.
